Influencing ideas

Professor Noam Chomsky is an individual that needs recognition for the insights he has provided. Mr Chomsky is recognized as one of our times most intellectual persons. Requiem for the American Dream (the film) gives great insight into how wealth yields a concentration of power to obtain further wealth. More importantly, the monetary effects described are not secluded to the USA – but are very evident throughout the modern economic civilization.

However, many ideas presented by Professor Noam Chomsky conform to those of anarcho-socialism. Anarcho-socialists are anti-authoritarian and advocate decentralisation of ruling institutions and broader association to local and communal groups. As with all political concepts, advocating certain type of social structure require conformity to social structural change for implementation, which itself becomes an obstacle for implementation. Social structures in societies are often part of the inherent cultural system and therefore difficult to change.

One other influencing idea comes from the that of a resource-based economy. This received quite some attention by the Zeitgeist movement. Though, claimed to have been founded by Jacque Fresco, founder of the Venus Project, it has its roots within the technocracy movement -and was first envisioned by Howard Scott in the early 1900: s.

However, Ideas within RBE (Resource based economy) see such a solution requiring the common holding of land. It is important to keep in mind that common holding of anything means government owned. This notion of common holding of land can be directly compared with the notion of the common holding of the manufacturing of goods and services – which describes Socialistic and Communistic ideals. With a very clear and distinct western ugly stamp on all political ideals associated with Communism, this alone can be the reason for ideas on a resource-based economy not finding foothold. The Venus project presents many innovative, futuristic, and visionary ideas. However, as I interpret this system of alternative living, it does propose solutions to many of today’s problems. Such a solution (or product), when presented, must include a blueprint for how this product is to be produced. The Venus project, even though it does provide an idea to a solution, most significantly, it does not provide for a blueprint of how to reach this – nor does it provide for how this can be applied to all cultures of the world.

I have also put together a set of links to further oneself on the above and other highly relevant sources in the member section.
